Day before first 2010 Boone Market Season...

Well today was the first day of harvesting for the market! It went very well, of course when the major crops come in, it will be a lot busier, I'm sure! We will post some pics after the market tomorrow.

Stuff...

We have definately been enjoying this spring weather! It doesn't get much better than this, cool nights, sunny, warm, breezy workdays, and a light drizzle for the days off and evenings. The crops are loving it! We are excited already for next year, and this winter. It will be nice to have lettuce and other things year round. So far everyone that has tried the lettuce and onions love them and keep asking for more! That makes it all worth it; good, local food! Our Boone Farmers Market starts this weekend, May 1st, and we are steadlily getting ready. We are going to try a few new things year, so hopefully it works well, we'll just have to watch for the snags and fix them. There is a big interest in a local market that is geared more towards the mindset of eating pesticide-free food, so we are working towards that as well, lots of details to work through, but ideas are coming to pass! The chickens are growing fast, and I am really enjoying the turkeys as well. They are definately very different than the chicks. The most excoting part of this whole gardening thing is that it takes all of us, which means I get to watch my beautifully pregnant wife work outside! She is having a blast, and she is in great shape, very healthy and ready for our CSA's to start. The lawn business is going so well, that I am tempted to add more! NAH!!! It is going well though! The guy i have working with us has been a great help, and we really enjoy him. It's going to be fun watching his family grow. Watch for more updates, gotta go.....
Keaton had a photo-shoot with Cedar, I think Cedar liked it.

Not sure what Jewel is doing...

Kids and onions...

Not much to say, but things are going well! The kids love the trampoline and it gets used a lot! I'm still not convinced that I like it yet, but they all insist that I do!

Springtime!

Ends are done, now for the top...

Getting the plastic ready to put on...

A little wind makes it tough, but we got it!

Finishing up...

All done and ready for seedlings!

Brocolli and Cabbage are doing great, and so is the wheat! No more wheat straw for us!

Onions and garlic are doing good too! We are officially eating from the garden, and loving it!

The power outage today encouraged a new home for the chicks! I think they like it. Its about 54 today and its 100 inside there, so we have to let a little breeze in for them...

Yep, they like it!

Keaton, wasn't he just in diapers?

Inside new hoophouse, now we need some shelves...

yum...

The family garlic patch...

Things are going really well, we are getting a break from the 80 degree weather this week. The spring is really nice!
